BWS 10.09.14: “Anyone Can Be a Screenwriter. Here’s How:”, with special guest Matt Huether

Tomorrow night, in addition to our four readers–Nora Gold, Shaista Latif, Cathy Petch and Ray Robertson–Brockton Writers Series presents “Anyone Can Be a Screenwriter. Here’s How:”, a talk by Matt Huether on getting started in screenwriting!

Matt is an Emmy-nominated TV writer/producer who currently serves as Co-Executive Producer for acclaimed teen series Degrassi, on which he has written for 8 seasons. Born in small town Sarnia, Ontario, and raised by 80s & 90s television, Matt has also written for How to Be IndieThe LA Complex, and Hot Wheels Battle Force 5, has twice been nominated for WGC Screenwriting Awards, and was named one of Playback Magazine’s “Ten to Watch” in 2010. Matt is enthusiastic about television, politics, hip-hop, brunch, and people who are enthusiastic about anything. His ramblings on these topics can be found on Twitter under @_Matty_H_ .

Matt’s talk begins at 6:30pm, and our regular reading program follows at 7:00, at full of beans Coffee House & Roastery, 1348 Dundas St. W., Toronto. See you there!

BWS 10.09.14: Line-up change

Unfortunately, Ghadeer Malek has had to reschedule – we look forward to having her perform at a future Brockton Writers event! – but we are pleased to announce that on September 10, we will now be presenting Shaista Latif! More to come from Shaista on the blog in a couple of days, but here’s a brief bio:

Shaista Latif is a storyteller, facilitator and performer. Her play Graceful Rebellions was presented at the 2014 SummerWorks Festival, 2013 Rhubarb Festival and 2013 Halifax Queer Acts Festival. Recently Latif was honoured with the Theatre Centre’s Emerging Artist Award at SummerWorks.
 
Shaista joins Nora GoldCathy Petch and Ray Robertson, as well as special guest speaker, Degrassi: The Next Generation writer/producer Matt Huether, at 6:30pm at full of beans Coffee House & Roastery, 1348 Dundas St. W., on Wednesday, September 10.
